PAKISTANI GUARDIANSHIP “ADOPTIONS” for Muslim Families

Pakistanis are granted guardianship according to Muslim law by their country’s Courts.

Pakistani/American families who want to rear a Pakistani infant orphan from their country are increasingly doing so under the rules of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. The number of Pakistani orphan children granted visas in American since 1998 has steadily grown and has given much hope to formerly childless couples.



o SOME FACTS:

o The adoptive family must be Muslim.

o One member of the family must be of Pakistani heritage.

o Adoptive couples must be married for a minimum of three years.

o Adoptive couples must be childless.

o Attorneys represent the families in Pakistan.

o Upon taking custody of their child adoptive families are advised to secure a medical examination to address health issues and to see if the placement is appropriate. It is recommended adoptive families retain an International Pediatrician in the US with whom they can conference call and exchange email when in Pakistan.

o In order to adopt, families must receive pre-approval from the USCIS (United States Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services) and obtain the form, “Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition. An Adoption Home Study conducted by an experienced New York State Licensed Master of Social Work who has conducted Pakistani home study reports (or a social worker licensed in your state) is a requirement for your Pakistani adoption.
